We are taking part in the Norwich Christmas Crown Trail which takes place across the city from 16th November until 5th January.
The story behind the trail…
900 years ago in 1121, King Henry I (one of the most powerful medieval kings) chose Norwich Castle for his Christmas court. The son of William the Conqueror, the construction of Norwich Castle had been completed that year under his instruction. So it made a fitting venue for his Christmas celebrations, which included a huge feast.
The king’s visit is one of the few recorded visits to Norwich by an Anglo-Norman king, making it a significant event in the history of the city and of East Anglia.
In celebration of this 900-year anniversary, we are participating in the Christmas Crown Trail across the city in partnership with Visit Norwich and Norfolk Museums Service- encouraging people to get out and about in the city and ‘spot the crowns’!
You can download a trail map here:
The trail is split into four smaller trails and we are part of the Purple Trail (from the Castle to the Tunnel of light). We will be displaying a crown on the stall from 16th November so drop by and see if you can spot it!
